Changes to This Summary (09/05/2008)

The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.

Previously Untreated Childhood Rhabdomyosarcoma

Added text about a pooled analysis of high-risk rhabdomyosarcoma patients treated with multiagent chemotherapy followed by local therapy.

Added text stating that high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue has been evaluated in a limited number of patients with rhabdomyosarcoma, but has failed to improve the prognosis of patients with poor risk rhabdomyosarcoma (added Koscielniak et al., Horowitz et al., Boulad et al., Carli et al., and Klingebiel et al. as references 68, 69, 70, 71, and 72, respectively). [Level of evidence: 3iiiA]

Added text about a study from the Cooperative Weichteilsarkomstudie group that suggested oral maintenance chemotherapy with a trofosfamide-containing regimen might offer clinical benefit in selected patients with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma.
