The FY2001 Bypass Budget lays out the funding priorities and vision for the NCI for the next three-year planning cycle.

During the past year, NCI carefully evaluated its current direction and progress in each investment area to chart a course for its second generation efforts. It was determined that the primary focus should be on using the infrastructure established in each area to resolve fundamental questions about cancer and to produce tangible improvements in cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment.

"Cancer Imaging" continues to be considered an area of extraordinary opportunity – in which focused efforts and increased resources could produce dramatic progress toward reducing the burden of cancer.
